I stopped at the Stonewall Kitchen “campus” in York, Maine on my way home, having delivered Mom to Logan for her flight back to California. Hadn’t had breakfast or lunch, I95 Southbound and Northbound had a snow-storm reduced speed limit of 45 mph, and I was feeling peckish. I browsed the store whilst the cafe chef prepared my BLT (expensive, but I felt deserved) and discovered my new favorite kitchen “tool.” Jim Scott and John King, founders and owners, offer an array of their utensil preferences and “finds.” Bingo: “Lily Pad Silicone Lids”!
Inspired by nature, Charles Viancin designed them to replace plastic wrap. They are effective and so satisfactory that I use them almost daily. The aforementioned (Bob’s Banana Cake) Discussion Group ladies got a “Lily Pad” demo earlier in the week when I retrieved my glass of wine from the refrigerator where it had been since the night before (couldn’t finish the last half of a glass of Chardonnay – go figure!
They’re available at Stonewall Kitchen’s York and Portland, Maine locations and online at http://www.charlesviancin.com. You’ll likely be able to find them elsewhere. Tuck some in someone’s Valentine or Easter Basket, or better, purchase one as a gift for yourself. After all, it’s the little things!
By the way, the BLT was excellent – worth every penny! I’m ranking it one of the best along with The Blue Spoon’s, Congress Street, Portland ME, and the one at the Mon Vert Cafe in Woodstock VT. I welcome your suggestions about other special BLTs, GF or otherwise. (Gus often travels with a loaf of Udi’s; more often than not the chef is willing to indulge him – Blue Spoon consistently!
I have one of these! My mom brought it back for me from her visit to Maine last summer. I have the larger one for large salad bowls, etc.
The Lily pads are a huge hit at Now You’re Cooking in Bath! How can you resist? The other shape is a hibiscus and they come in several sizes!
I have one and use it in the microwave and also to cover dishes in the refrigerator. Bought mine in Fredricksburg, Texas.
Cool! Good find!
these are cute and functional! i love maine and have been itching to return there!
Thanks to my father who shared with me on the topic of this website, this weblog is genuinely amazing.
What a data of un-ambiguity and preserveness of precious familiarity about unexpected emotions.
